Drives are the most common failure point. RAID protects against single-drive failure, but as drives age they fail in clusters. A double-drive failure on an old RAID 5 can destroy the entire array without warning.
Power supplies and batteries
Redundant power supplies age together, RAID controller batteries degrade, and UPS batteries lose capacity. Any of these can silently reduce reliability until the day the whole system trips.
Operating system support
