Hard drives, power supplies, and fans wear out on predictable curves, and manufacturers stop stocking parts once a model is discontinued. What actually breaks first

Storage

Drives are the most common failure point. RAID protects against single-drive failure, but as drives age they fail in clusters. A double-drive failure on an old RAID 5 can destroy the entire array without warning.

Power supplies and batteries

Redundant power supplies age together, RAID controller batteries degrade, and UPS batteries lose capacity. Any of these can silently reduce reliability until the day the whole system trips.

Operating system support

Windows Server 2012 R2 is fully out of support. Windows Server 2016 mainstream support has ended. Running an unsupported server OS is a hard-stop compliance issue for most professional services and healthcare businesses in Ontario.
