Backup & Disaster Recovery

Backup & Disaster Recovery for Northern Ontario Businesses

Designed-for-recovery backup workstations, servers, and Microsoft 365 with monitoring, documented restore testing, and ransomware-ready architecture from a local Ontario team.

Serving Greater Sudbury, Northern Ontario, and surrounding communities. Remote support available throughout Ontario.

Most businesses don't have a backup problem they have a recovery problem. Backups quietly fail, retention is misconfigured, Microsoft 365 isn't covered, and nobody has ever actually restored anything until the worst day of the year.

Nickel City Tech Solutions designs backup and disaster recovery around the recovery side first: what needs to come back, how fast, and how do we prove it works. Then we build the backup architecture to deliver that.

What's included

Workstation & Server Backup

Image-based and file-level backup for Windows workstations and servers with monitoring and alerting.

Microsoft 365 Backup

Dedicated backup for Exchange, OneDrive, SharePoint, and Teams data with documented retention.

On-Site & Off-Site Copies

Layered local and cloud copies so a single failure or incident can't take out every backup at once.

Ransomware-Ready Design

Immutable / off-network copies, separated credentials, and alerting on suspicious backup activity.

Documented Recovery Testing

Scheduled restore tests files, mailboxes, and server images so we know recovery works before you need it.

Failure Monitoring & Alerting

Daily backup health monitoring with proactive alerting and remediation, not silent failures.

RTO / RPO Planning

Define how fast you need to recover (RTO) and how much data you can afford to lose (RPO), then design to meet it.

DR Runbooks

Documented disaster recovery procedures so the right steps happen during an incident, not improvised under pressure.

Who it's for

  • Businesses relying on Microsoft 365 with no dedicated backup
  • Companies running line-of-business apps on a server that 'can't go down'
  • Organizations whose backup status is 'I think it's running'
  • Cyber insurance applicants required to prove backup and recovery testing

Common problems we solve

  • Backups that 'run' but have never been test-restored
  • Microsoft 365 data assumed to be 'handled by Microsoft' it isn't
  • Ransomware exposure because backups sit on the same network with the same credentials
  • No documented RTO/RPO and no plan for who does what during an outage
  • Failed backups going unnoticed for weeks or months

Why Nickel City Tech Solutions

  • Designed for recovery first, not just 'backups that run'
  • Microsoft 365 backup included, not an afterthought
  • Ransomware-ready architecture aligned with current insurance requirements
  • Scheduled, documented restore testing for managed clients
  • Local Ontario team available during an incident, not a global support queue

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between backup and disaster recovery?

Backup is a copy of your data. Disaster recovery is the documented, tested process for getting your business back up and running after an outage, ransomware event, or hardware failure within an acceptable timeframe. You need both, designed together.

Do you back up Microsoft 365?

Yes. Microsoft replicates data for service availability but does not protect long-term against accidental deletion, ransomware, malicious insiders, or retention-policy errors. We deploy dedicated Microsoft 365 backup covering Exchange, OneDrive, SharePoint, and Teams.

How often do you test recovery?

We schedule documented recovery tests for managed clients restoring individual files, full mailboxes, and where applicable full server images so we know recovery actually works before a real incident, not during one.

What does ransomware-ready backup mean?

Backups designed so ransomware can't reach or encrypt them: immutable / off-network copies, separate credentials, alerting on suspicious backup behaviour, and tested restore procedures that don't depend on the compromised environment.
