Google Cloud Support for Businesses
Nickel City Tech Solutions provides professional Google Cloud support for businesses across Greater Sudbury and Northern Ontario. We help organizations set up, manage, secure, monitor, and troubleshoot Google Cloud and Google Workspace environments, whether as a one-time project or as ongoing managed support.
Serving Greater Sudbury, Northern Ontario, and surrounding communities. Remote support available throughout Ontario.
Not every business runs on Microsoft. Plenty of Northern Ontario organizations run Gmail, Google Drive, and Shared Drives day to day, and some run servers or workloads on Google Cloud Platform. Those environments deserve the same standard of administration, security, backup, and support that we apply to Microsoft 365 and on-premises infrastructure.
We handle Google Workspace administration and Google Cloud infrastructure alongside Microsoft 365, Azure, local servers, and third-party applications, so a mixed environment is supported as one environment, not as two disconnected halves.
Clients can contact us for one-time Google Cloud projects, migrations, or troubleshooting, or fold Google Cloud support into an ongoing managed IT plan with monitoring, backup oversight, and helpdesk support included.
Google's built-in retention is not a substitute for backup. We deploy Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud as independent SaaS backup for Google Workspace (Gmail, Drive, and Shared Drives), storing restorable copies outside Google's own infrastructure.
Google Workspace setup and administration
We set up and administer Google Workspace tenants end to end: domain verification and DNS, user accounts and groups, organizational units, Gmail routing and aliases, calendars and resource booking, Google Meet, licensing, and admin-console policy. Existing tenants get a full review. Admin roles, sharing defaults, retention, and dormant accounts are the four places we almost always find problems.
Google Workspace administration is straightforward when it's deliberate and messy when it isn't. Tenants that grew organically usually have too many super-admins, external sharing wide open on Drive, personal accounts holding company files, and no documented process for adding or removing staff. We clean that up and document it so it stays clean.
- Google Workspace setup, domain verification, and DNS configuration
- Gmail and business email support: routing, aliases, delegation, deliverability
- Google Drive and Shared Drive management, structure, and permissions
- User account, group, and access management across organizational units
- Licensing review and edition right-sizing
- Documented onboarding and offboarding procedures
Google Cloud infrastructure and virtual machines
For businesses running workloads on Google Cloud Platform, we handle project and IAM structure, Compute Engine virtual machines, persistent disks and storage buckets, VPC networking and firewall rules, snapshot and backup policies, monitoring and alerting, and cost review. The goal for a small or mid-sized business is boring, predictable cloud infrastructure: built properly, secured, backed up, monitored, and understood.
We also advise honestly on placement. Some workloads belong in Google Cloud, some in Azure, some on a local Hyper-V host. We'll tell you when moving something to the cloud will cost more and deliver less, and we'll tell you when it's clearly the right move.
- Google Cloud project, IAM, and organization structure
- Cloud server and virtual machine management (Compute Engine)
- Storage, networking, and firewall configuration
- Snapshot, backup, and data-protection policies
- Monitoring, alerting, and cost visibility
Security configuration and monitoring
Google Workspace and Google Cloud are secure platforms with insecure defaults for most businesses. We enforce two-step verification for every user, separate and minimize administrator accounts, tighten Drive and Shared Drive external sharing, enable Gmail phishing and spoofing protections, configure SPF, DKIM, and DMARC properly, apply mobile device management, and watch the alert centre.
On the Google Cloud side, that extends to least-privilege IAM, service-account hygiene, firewall rules that don't expose management ports to the internet, and audit logging retained long enough to be useful after an incident. These are the same controls cyber-insurance renewals now ask about, and we document them so the answers are evidenced rather than assumed.
Backup and data protection for Google Workspace
Google protects its platform; your data is still your responsibility. Deleted mail and files age out of the trash, ransomware on a workstation can sync destructive changes into Drive, and a departed employee's data can vanish when the licence is reclaimed. We deploy independent third-party backup for Gmail, Drive, Shared Drives, Calendar, and Contacts with documented retention and tested restores, the same discipline we apply to Microsoft 365 and on-premises servers.
Cloud migrations
We plan and run migrations into and out of Google: Microsoft 365 or Exchange to Google Workspace, legacy IMAP and hosted mail to Gmail, file servers and consumer Google accounts into Shared Drives, and Google Workspace to Microsoft 365 when that's the better fit. Every migration follows the same pattern: audit, plan, pilot, cut over outside business hours, then support users hands-on for the first week.
The technical work is mail and file movement, DNS and MX cutover, and mail-flow records. The part that actually determines success is user readiness, so we brief staff before the cutover and stay available afterwards.
Integration with Microsoft 365, local servers, and third-party apps
Most environments are mixed. We handle identity and single sign-on, coexistence between Gmail and Exchange Online, file sharing between Google Drive and SharePoint or OneDrive, mapped drives and local file servers alongside Shared Drives, and integrations with the line-of-business, accounting, and industry applications your team already uses.
A mixed Google and Microsoft environment is entirely workable; it just needs to be designed rather than inherited.
Troubleshooting and ongoing technical support
Day-to-day support is the part clients feel most: mail that isn't arriving, Drive that won't sync, permission errors on a Shared Drive, a calendar that won't share, a file that needs restoring, or a new hire who needs an account by Monday. We handle these remotely across Ontario, and on-site across Greater Sudbury, Lively, and surrounding Northern Ontario communities.

Frequently asked questions
Do you support Google Workspace as well as Microsoft 365?
Yes. We support both, and we support businesses that run a mix of the two. Many Northern Ontario organizations use Google Workspace for email, Drive, and collaboration while running Microsoft applications or line-of-business software on Windows. We administer Google Workspace end to end: user accounts, groups, Gmail routing, Shared Drives, security settings, and licensing, and we keep it integrated cleanly with the rest of your environment.
Can you help us migrate to Google Cloud or Google Workspace?
Yes. We plan and execute migrations to Google Workspace from Microsoft 365, Exchange, IMAP hosts, and legacy mail providers, including mailbox and file migration, DNS and MX cutover, SPF/DKIM/DMARC records, and end-user setup. We also handle migrations off Google Workspace when Microsoft 365 is the better fit, since we recommend the platform that suits your business, not the one that suits us.
Do we need a monthly contract for Google Cloud support?
No. You can hire us for a one-time Google Cloud or Google Workspace project: a migration, a security clean-up, a Shared Drive restructure, or a specific troubleshooting engagement. You can also fold Google Cloud support into an ongoing managed IT plan so administration, monitoring, backups, and user support are handled continuously. Both options are available.
What Google Cloud infrastructure work do you handle?
Google Cloud Platform project and IAM setup, Compute Engine virtual machines, storage buckets, networking and firewall rules, backup and snapshot policies, cost review, and monitoring and alerting. For most small and mid-sized businesses this means a handful of cloud servers or workloads that need to be built properly, secured, backed up, and monitored, not a large enterprise platform build.
Is Google Workspace data backed up automatically?
Not in the way most businesses assume. Google protects its own infrastructure, but your Gmail, Drive, and Shared Drive data remains your responsibility. Deleted items age out, ransomware can sync into Drive, and departed-employee data can disappear with the licence. We deploy independent third-party backup for Google Workspace with documented retention, the same way we do for Microsoft 365.
Can Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 work together?
Yes, and this is common. We handle split mail routing, calendar interoperability, identity and single sign-on, file-sharing between Drive and SharePoint or OneDrive, and integration with local file servers and third-party applications. Mixed environments are workable when they're designed deliberately. Most of the problems we're called in to fix come from a mix that grew by accident.
How do you secure a Google Workspace tenant?
Two-step verification enforced across all users, admin role hygiene and separate administrator accounts, context-aware access where it fits, secure external sharing defaults on Drive and Shared Drives, Gmail phishing and spoofing protections, alert-centre monitoring, mobile device management, and documented offboarding so departed staff lose access immediately. We review the whole tenant against these baselines and remediate the gaps.
Do you provide Gmail and Drive support for staff?
Yes. Day-to-day user support is part of what we do: Gmail delivery issues, shared mailboxes and delegation, calendar and resource booking, Drive sync problems, permission errors, restoring deleted files, and onboarding or offboarding accounts. Support is available remotely across Ontario and on-site across Greater Sudbury and surrounding communities.
Do you serve businesses outside Greater Sudbury?
Yes. Google Cloud and Google Workspace work is largely remote, so we support businesses throughout Ontario. On-site visits cover Greater Sudbury, Lively, Espanola, Elliot Lake, North Bay, Sturgeon Falls, Parry Sound, Manitoulin Island, and surrounding Northern Ontario communities.
