IT Support for Restaurants & Hotels in Northern Ontario
Managed IT and networking built for restaurants and hotels across Greater Sudbury and Northern Ontario, keeping POS systems, guest Wi-Fi, kitchen printers, and payment terminals running through every shift.
Serving Greater Sudbury, Northern Ontario, and surrounding communities. Remote support available throughout Ontario.
In hospitality, a network problem shows up immediately, and in front of customers. A POS terminal that freezes during a dinner rush, a kitchen printer that stops routing orders, or guest Wi-Fi that's so slow it generates complaints all cost you revenue and reputation in real time, not on some quarterly report.
Nickel City Tech Solutions supports restaurants and hotels with properly separated networks that keep guest traffic away from POS and payment systems, reliable connectivity for kitchen printers and payment terminals, and multi-location support for hospitality groups with more than one site.
We work across Greater Sudbury (Lively, Chelmsford, Hanmer, Valley East, Garson, Azilda, Coniston), North Bay, Espanola, Elliot Lake, Sault Ste. Marie, Manitoulin Island, Sturgeon Falls, Parry Sound, Temiskaming Shores, and Muskoka, supporting independent restaurants, hotels, and multi-location hospitality groups.
Guest Wi-Fi separated from business systems
It's tempting to run guest Wi-Fi off the same router as everything else, especially in a smaller restaurant or a boutique hotel. The problem is that guest devices are unmanaged and unpredictable: they bring malware, they saturate bandwidth, and they represent an entry point you don't control.
We build networks with guest Wi-Fi on its own VLAN, isolated from POS, payment terminals, back-office systems, and, in hotels, property management and door lock systems. Guests get fast, reliable internet; your business-critical systems stay untouched by whatever happens on the guest network.
- Dedicated VLAN and SSID for guest Wi-Fi, isolated from business systems
- Bandwidth shaping so guest usage doesn't starve POS or back-office connectivity
- Captive portal or simple login options depending on your brand needs
- Separate network segments for POS, kitchen systems, and (in hotels) door locks and property management software
POS uptime and payment network separation
A POS outage during service is one of the most disruptive things that can happen to a restaurant or hotel front desk. We monitor POS servers, terminals, and network switches, and we design connectivity with redundancy where it's practical, so a single point of failure doesn't take down the ability to take orders or process payments.
We also separate the network carrying payment terminal traffic from guest and general business traffic, which is a foundational practice supporting payment card security. We are not a Qualified Security Assessor and don't certify PCI compliance; we recommend working with your payment processor or a qualified assessor to validate your environment against the current PCI DSS standard.
Kitchen printers, order routing, and back-of-house connectivity
Kitchen printers and order-routing systems are easy to overlook until one stops working mid-shift. We set up and monitor the switches, cabling, and print servers behind these systems, and we prioritize fast response when a back-of-house connectivity issue is actively affecting service.
Multi-location support for hospitality groups
Restaurant groups and hotel chains benefit from standardized networking and centralized monitoring across every location, rather than each site figuring out its own IT setup independently. We deploy consistent equipment and configuration, and give head office a single view into the health of every location.

Frequently asked questions
Can you keep our guest Wi-Fi separate from the network our POS runs on?
Yes, and this is one of the most important things we set up for restaurants and hotels. Guest Wi-Fi and the network carrying point-of-sale and payment traffic should never share the same network segment. We build separated networks with distinct VLANs so a guest device with malware, or simple network congestion from dozens of phones, can't touch your POS, back-office systems, or payment terminals.
Do you certify PCI compliance for our payment network?
We are not a Qualified Security Assessor and we do not certify PCI DSS compliance. What we do is design and maintain network separation between guest, POS, and payment terminal traffic, which is a foundational practice that supports PCI requirements. We recommend working with your payment processor or a qualified PCI assessor to confirm your specific compliance obligations and validate your environment against the current standard.
What happens if our POS goes down during service?
We monitor POS servers, terminals, and the network connections between them, and we build in redundancy where practical, such as backup internet connectivity, so a single failure doesn't stop you from taking orders or processing payments during a dinner rush or a full house. Managed clients get a documented escalation path for urgent, revenue-affecting issues.
Can you support kitchen printers and order routing?
Yes. Kitchen printers, order-routing systems, and the network switches connecting them to your POS are common points of failure in a busy kitchen. We set these up properly and monitor them, and we troubleshoot quickly when a ticket printer stops firing during service.
Do you support multiple restaurant or hotel locations?
Yes. We support multi-location restaurant groups and hotels with standardized networking, consistent Wi-Fi configuration, and centralized monitoring, so head office has visibility into every location's systems without needing a different IT setup at each site.
How do you approach hotel network security?
Hotels have more network complexity than most hospitality businesses: guest room Wi-Fi, back-office systems, property management software, door lock systems, and sometimes point-of-sale for a restaurant or bar all on one property. We segment these networks, apply firewall policy between them, and monitor for unusual activity, so a compromised guest device or a security camera exploit doesn't reach front-desk or payment systems.
Which areas do you serve for restaurant and hotel IT support?
We support restaurants and hotels across Greater Sudbury (Lively, Chelmsford, Hanmer, Valley East, Garson, Azilda, Coniston), North Bay, Espanola, Elliot Lake, Sault Ste. Marie, Manitoulin Island, Sturgeon Falls, Parry Sound, Temiskaming Shores, and Muskoka.
