IT Support for Trucking Companies

Owner-operators and small to mid-size trucking companies across Northern Ontario often get their IT support from whoever happens to be available, a relative who's good with computers, or a generic help desk that has never touched an ELD or a dispatch board. That gap shows up fast the first time dispatch software stalls or a driver's tablet stops syncing on a run to Sault Ste. Marie.

The short answer

Trucking companies need IT support that covers dispatch and ELD connectivity, managed driver devices, resilient office and yard networking, and cybersecurity around load and payment data. The goal is keeping trucks moving and dispatchers informed, not just keeping office PCs updated.

Where trucking IT problems actually happen

Ask any dispatcher where their worst IT headaches come from and the answer is rarely the office printer. It's a driver tablet that won't sync hours-of-service logs, a dispatch board that freezes during a shift change, or a yard Wi-Fi signal that doesn't reach the fuel island. These are connectivity and device problems more than they are software problems, and they need a provider who treats them as first-class issues.

ELD and dispatch connectivity

Electronic logging devices and dispatch platforms depend on a chain of connectivity: the truck's cellular modem or Bluetooth link to a driver's phone, that phone's data connection, and the dispatch platform's servers on the other end. We do not own or build ELD or TMS software, that responsibility sits with the vendor, but we do troubleshoot the network path, the driver device, and the credentials in between when something stops syncing. Our article on fleet and GPS connectivity problems covers the most common failure points.

Managing driver tablets and phones

A driver device that isn't centrally managed is a security and compliance gap on wheels. Our mobile device management service enrolls driver phones and tablets so security updates, app deployment, and policy enforcement happen automatically, and so a lost device can be locked or wiped without waiting for it to physically come back to the yard.

  • Automatic enrollment when a device is issued to a driver
  • Patch and policy push the moment a device reconnects to data or Wi-Fi
  • Remote wipe for devices reported lost or stolen
  • Clean deprovisioning when a driver leaves the company

Dispatch office and yard networking

A trucking company's dispatch office is its nerve center, and it needs internet that doesn't go down at the worst possible moment. We build network and Wi-Fi setups with a backup internet connection, usually LTE, so a single fiber cut or outage doesn't leave dispatch unable to reach drivers. Warehouse and yard buildings also need deliberate Wi-Fi design, which we cover in warehouse and dispatch office Wi-Fi.

Watching it all with remote monitoring

Between office servers, dispatch workstations, and networking gear at one or more yards, there's a lot that can quietly fail before anyone notices. Our remote monitoring and management service flags failing hardware, expiring certificates, and connectivity issues early, often before they interrupt a dispatch shift.

Cybersecurity for load and payment data

Trucking companies handle load details, rate confirmations, and payment information that make them targets for freight-payment fraud and business email compromise. Our cybersecurity services put multi-factor authentication, email filtering, and endpoint protection in place across office and driver devices. See cybersecurity for transportation companies for the specific threats worth watching.

Backing up dispatch and billing records

Dispatch logs, rate confirmations, and billing records need protection from both hardware failure and ransomware. Our backup and disaster recovery service, running on Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud, covers servers, office workstations, and Microsoft 365 with regularly tested restores.

Frequently asked questions

Do you support ELD devices directly?

ELD hardware and software are owned by the ELD vendor. We support the connectivity, driver device, and network infrastructure around it, which is where most day-to-day issues actually originate.

Can you help with a dispatch board that keeps freezing?

Usually yes. Freezing dispatch boards are frequently caused by network congestion, an outdated browser, or a workstation issue rather than the platform itself, and those are areas we diagnose and fix directly.

What if a driver loses their company tablet on the road?

If the device is enrolled in mobile device management, we can remotely lock or wipe it immediately, protecting any load or company data on the device regardless of where the truck is.

Do you support single-truck owner-operators or only larger fleets?

We work with carriers of various sizes across Northern Ontario. The core needs, dispatch connectivity, device management, and cybersecurity, scale down just as well as they scale up.
