The Challenge
- Dead zones on the plant floor and in the warehouse causing scanner and tablet disconnects
- Consumer-grade APs added over years with no centralized management
- Guest, staff, and OT devices all on the same SSID
- No visibility into client experience, roaming behaviour, or coverage gaps
Assessment
- On-site Wi-Fi survey across plant, warehouse, and office
- Reviewed existing switching, PoE budget, and uplinks
- Identified OT devices, scanners, tablets, and VoIP phones with specific RF requirements
- Modelled Meraki MR and MS sizing with appropriate Enterprise licensing
The Solution
- Deployed Cisco Meraki MR series access points sized to plant and warehouse coverage requirements
- Replaced uplink switches with Meraki MS for PoE and consistent cloud management
- Separated SSIDs: staff (802.1X), shop-floor scanners, guest, and IoT
- Configured QoS for VoIP and prioritized scanner traffic
- Enabled Meraki Insight for ongoing client-experience monitoring
Results
reported scanner disconnects after cutover (down from daily)
isolated SSIDs replacing one flat wireless network
across plant, warehouse, and office floors verified by post-deployment survey
cloud dashboard for ongoing visibility and troubleshooting
